I sometimes think that lefty fringe groups such as Code Pink exist mainly for conservative propaganda purposes:
Somebody sent me this in an email and I didn't think it could be true. Then I followed the link to the Code Pink website and I was still dubious because the page looks like a mock-up, and it's so nutty...I still didn't think it could be true. But now Fox confirms, Code Pink is engaging in witchcraft at the Marine Corps recruiting station in Berkeley in another attempt to...drive the Marines into an ocean of peace?
Yes, Code Pink is silly. So is giving them lots of attention in order to pretend the group somehow represents mainstream liberalism. I mean, granted, I also practice antiwar witchcraft. But that's just a coincidence.
And yes, this is bait for Dr. Zaius.

Posted by Joel at May 9, 2008 02:32 PMI’m surprised by a number of things from this blog.
1. You watch Fox.
2. You believed Fox.
3. You didn’t know witchcraft is SOP for the radical left, how do you think McCain got the nomination?
Nice one, Hamilton. But you chewed up most of the bait before I got a bite. I'm sure Joel will put out more for me soon.
And I know, Joel, that Code Pink doesn't represent mainstream liberalism. They represent your brand of liberalism, you hippie. Try shaving, dude.
Posted by: Dr. Zaius at May 9, 2008 08:12 PMFor true fans of Code Pink, as I am, I find the handy schedule quite useful. It is so easy to schedule an event.
Okay maybe they do come across as behaving a tiny bit un-mainstream liberal, but how better to get across the essence of mainstream liberal messages?
These ladies really do work hard. Please show them some respect! It's like dissing your own liberal candidates. Shame!

Posted by: john 2000 at May 9, 2008 09:47 PMWait a sec, we need to clarify terms. Code Pink is not a "liberal" organization. It is leftist, through and through. There is a difference. It's one of those things you might learn in college, as I did. I once referred to a campus activist as a liberal, and he was quick to correct me. "I am NOT a liberal," he said, as though I had accused him of being a Klansman. "I'm a LEFTIST." What's the difference? Well, think of the difference between an American Revolutionary and a French Revolutionary -- the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the guillotine. I suspect Code Pink, despite its protests for peace, have more affinity for the latter than the former.
Posted by: Ben at May 9, 2008 10:17 PMAs usual, Ben, you are correct ... to a point. I'm not the one who playfully threw around the idea that we should "pretend the group somehow represents mainstream liberalism." Some bearded hippie did.
There is a big difference. Joel is by no means a "leftist." But he threw up the freak flag.
By the way, lots of my friends are liberals and borderline leftists. Well, OK, three. But I love them all.
Posted by: Dr. Zaius at May 9, 2008 11:36 PMThe distinction here is becoming near impossible to discern within the current democratic party. It seems as though the liberal wing has all but been snuffed out by the leftist wing. The old liberals are hiding and shaking in fear: kowtowed into lock step conformity. Even a liberal like Dianne Feinstein is afraid to come out and support HRC. We hardly know who we can can consider safely liberal anymore.

Hard to argue with much of that. Peggy Noonan hit on some of that theme in her column Friday.
The most interesting thing about this Democratic Primary campaign has been the hard tug of the leftists (not liberals) in the party. Come to think of it, Charles Krauthammer had an even better take on it than Peggy.
... as Obama began to rise, powered by the party's Net-roots activists, she scurried left, particularly with her progressively more explicit renunciation of the Iraq war. It was a fool's errand.
Now, it's arguable whether or not it's a fool's errand political strategy in a general election to to denounce the Iraq War as much at the lefty Net-roots demand. But it is not arguable whether or not it was, and is, smart to appeal to the hard left of the Democratic Party to help secure the nomination. Obama had it, kept it, and won.
In support of Krauthammer's statement you cite above, Dr. Zaius, I vividly recall the period when that was happening. It was like suddenly she had gone from seeming a little right of left to several positions expressly left of Obama, who was meanwhile mentioning 16 months and that a small, maybe 30,000, contingency force would possibly be wise. She was also positioned to the left of Obama on the great 'Universal' health care blab.
Even then Obama was positioning relative to McCain for voters while HRC was crawling for some crumbs from the Left, which she wasn't going get. She was only going to get crapped on. At this point, they hate her more than Bush, if that is even conceivable.

No. It's not conceivable. Nothing, to the left, eclipses Bush Derangement Syndrome (another diagnosis by Dr. Krauthammer.)
Posted by: Dr. Zaius at May 10, 2008 01:42 AMOne could always hope. Maybe McCain could become Clinton II instead of Bush III and THEY could become even more confused and think McCain was meaning 100 years in Kosovo or Somalia.
Posted by: john 2000 at May 10, 2008 01:58 AMThe crack-head far, far left is in control of the Democratic Party. And will continue to rule when their poster boy Senator Obama becomes President. Now, I vow that boy comment wasn’t referring to race but I better retract it just to be safe. Poster President Obama is going to cringe every time Code Pink and the Daily Kos have dinner at the White House. And his but is really going to get kicked when he gets to the war room and finds out he can’t bring all the troops home NOW. I bet those nightmares are starting, poor guy. What’s that old saying, something about lying down with dogs?
Posted by: Hamilton at May 10, 2008 06:25 AMBut, 'Bama and 'Chell would have to toss a big bone or six to the ravers and the 'black nation' very early on - like Clinton did for gays as almost first action of their first administration. Ah, those heady days with Tipper et Al.
I worry most about the concessions that would be owed for cabinet and 'other' wormy positions. This new Left is for more organized and focused now. I is a condition that I do not want to have to experience.
Posted by: john 2000 at May 10, 2008 05:57 PMlooks like code pink got wind of this session.
