Fire Politics: The Clowns March In

Fire brings out the best and worst in people.

Glenn Beck, for example, is a boob.

Some Hugh Hewitt readers/trolls are little better.

And some nasty Angelinos really want to see Malibu burn. There's a special place in Hell for such people.

1. Your link goes to a relatively blank page that shows what Glen Beck had to say on a side panel (that you'd have to look for to see).

2. Can you share with me the code for the "automatically pop up a new window for the link"

The link should work better now.

Yes. Beck is a boob. I must confess, however, being a little less than tear-stricken to hear that uber-wealthy people lost their second (or third, or fourth) homes in Malibu over the weekend. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe. But when LA news treats as a tragedy the destruction of the "Malibu Castle" -- and designates a garishly constructed (in 1978) 10,000-square-foot home a "landmark" -- the nasty, cynical monkey in me starts to screech.

Oh, and Salon's poster is also a bit of a boob, blaming the wildfires on man-made climate change. Before Wednesday, the loonies on the Puffing Host and Daily Kos will be claiming that Bush set the fires himself (if they haven't already).

Agreed. Wildfires are as common in Southern California as earthquakes, and have been well before Al Gore warned the world of its impending doom. Remember last year all the news was about how a record rainy season would lead to more fires because of too much vegetation. This year, of course, a record dry season is leading to more fires because of the lack of rain. The argument can work any way you like.

Zaius, whenever I need a bit of code that the other Monkeys are using, I just select "view source" from the View menu in my browser.

What you're asking for is the added little bit of target="_blank" before the close of the first tag. See:

[a href="http://www.salon.com/tech/htww/2007/10/22/glenn_beck_hates_california" target="_blank"]

I had to alter the brackets [ instead of < to make it show up in this comment.
