Via Michelle Malkin:
Self-important dumbass Mr. Gwynneth Paltrow of the "music" group Coldplay thinks that "shareholders are the great evil of this modern world." Mr. Paltrow objected to the "the slavery that we are all under to shareholders".
"Slavery.? The sonofabitch's "band" sells 20 million albums worlwide, he's undoubtedly a f**king millionaire becaue of the "slaveholders", I mean shareholders, and he likens it to slavery?
Dude, a little perspective maybe? Maybe you don't like sacrificing your "art" to the evils of the corporate world, but to characterize your fame and fortune as "slavery" is beyond idiotic.
Jerk.
You lost me at "Via Michelle Malkin"
Seriously though, the great evil of this modern (economic) world isn't the concept of shareholders, it's the corporate liability shield.
Posted by: RobbL Monkey at May 20, 2005 12:01 PMWell, I did see the story first on Michelle Malkin's website, so I felt I had to credit it. But that doesn't change the story, which originated with an Evening Standard writer in London.
And I might agree with your criticism of the "corporate liability shield" if we can somehow limit the threat of the "plaintiffs' bar's corporate liability sword."
Posted by: JamesPh. at May 20, 2005 05:18 PMI don't see the problem as the liability shield, as much as it is (1) the high capital entry (and maintenance) cost to many business segments (2) the high concentration of productive capital in the hands of a few (it has ever thus been) and (3) the ability to manipulate differentials across economic borders (regulatory, labor pricing, currency, etc.). Not that transfer of productive capital to the government is the answer - no, that would be an even worse situation. But some way to transfer more productive capital to more people.
Posted by: c matt at May 23, 2005 01:58 PMI would argue that elimination of the liability shield would address both JP and CM's concerns. But that is another post for another day.
Posted by: RobbL Monkey at May 23, 2005 06:33 PMSo he's really saying he thinks evil is awesome. Well why didn't he come right out and say that? He might sell even more albumbs.
