Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether Arafat broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our Israeli friends -- he did. But you can't hold a whole scoiety responsible for the behavior of a few, sick and twisted individuals.
For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole Middle East? And if the whole Middle East is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of Arab society in general? I put it to you, my fellow Monkeys -- isn't this an indictment of our entire global community?
Well, JamesPh. you can do whatever you want to Arafat's corpse, put his head on pike if you must! But I'm not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United Arab Emirates! Gentlemen!

Actually, I would just be happy peeing on the murdering bastard's grave.
Posted by: JamesPh at November 11, 2004 07:40 AMSomeone ought to compile a list of all the crimes Arafat and the PLO have either committed, condoned, or allowed under their watch.
Posted by: Fritz at November 11, 2004 10:35 AMGood idea - and perhaps they could simultaneously make a list of Ariel Sharon's atrocities, and other Israeli violence against civilians...
(not to suggest that Arafat wasn't a monster and the PLO terrorists, just pointing out that nobody gets to wear the "white hat" in that region)
Posted by: RobbL Monkey at November 12, 2004 08:40 AMI'll take up the opportunity missed in the previous post:
"Mr. Sharon, tear down this wall!"
Don't all clap at once.
Posted by: RedAssedBaboon at November 12, 2004 11:11 AMSubtle difference between the Berlin Wall and the wall protecting Israel. The Berlin Wall was to keep people from obtaining freedom. The wall you object to is to keep terrorists from killing Jews. Like I said, a subtle difference.
And, when the Palestinians show they no longer raise their children to hate and desire the deaths of the Jews, I suspect there will be peace.
Posted by: JamesPh at November 12, 2004 08:19 PMRiiiight. It's to protect the Jews, and not to deny an indigenous minority their freedoms. A wall's a wall. It's always built to keep one side from another. And when the majority is the one building the wall to isolate minority communities, it's not because they need the protection.
Perhaps when the citizens decide to stop listening the nutcases on either side that are running the show, and start listening to each other's problems, they'll come together. It would help if people didn't make the assumption that Palestinians raise their children to be terrorists.
Posted by: RedAssedBaboon at November 13, 2004 10:37 PMNobody makes assumptions that Palestinians raise their children to hate the Israelis. All you have to do is read the reports and see the pictures of five year old Palestinian children dipping their hands in symbolic blood. What goes on the Palestinian and Islamic schools and the Arab press is fairly well known. A passionate hatred of Israel and the Jews. Little Green Footballs has copied photos from the Al Aqsa website showing children and infants dressed as terrorists and suicide bombers and glorifying Hezbollah. Wonderful people, huh?
And the wall did not go up until the Palestinians suicide bombers ramped up. (Remember the picture of the Israeli infant being tended to on the street after being blown up?)
Israel has a substantial Arab population, including members of the Knesset. To equate the ruthless murder of Israeli women and infants with Israel's need to defend itself is absurd.
