"Girlie-Men" and Cry-Babies, Too

If The New York Times covers it, then you know it must be serious: "With his frustration mounting this weekend over his inability to muscle a budget through the Legislature, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called his Democratic opponents 'girlie men' and vowed to work to unseat them in November."

Reporters, sensing (correctly) the chance to make a mountain out of a molehill, went scrambling for responses from the Democrats and their pals. The Times story gives three paragraphs to the increasingly unhinged Arianna Huffington: "What we've seen in Arnold is an alternation of the seducer and the bully...When the seduction doesn't work anymore, the bully comes out. The expression 'girlie man' is the bully speaking. It's not something you can imagine 99 percent of politicians saying." Quite right. (The last part, I mean.) It's refreshing to hear a pol speaking honestly and off-the-cuff once in a while. Partisanship can be useful. Just ask the Democrats.

The L.A. Times went even further over the top, quoting Sen. Sheila Kuehl: "It's really painful to hear the governor resort to such blatant homophobia...It's an old-fashioned way of talking about gay men as to indicate they're not as strong. So that part is really painful. And I have to say it's really surprising. It's like he can't get his way so he resorts to some kind of name-calling."

Now, that's just silly. I believe that band, Radiohead, put it best:

ED
Geez, what a little cry baby.

COLIN
You gonna cry all day, cry baby?

THOM
You know, everyone has problems. It doesn't mean you have to be a little cry baby about it.

ED
Come on, guys, let's go. This [legislature] is totally not cool.

THOM
Yeah, that's the most uncool [legislature] I've ever met.

PHIL
Little cry baby.
