Links without permalinks, Jesus, movies, books, and more...

On the radio, it was mentioned that a good treatment of the anti-semitism / hostile-to-Jews aspects (or lack thereof) in the movie The Passion can be found at Mark D. Roberts' blog. Well, I found it there. But there aren't permalinks. Oh, and I haven't read the piece(s) on The Passion yet, as I've been busy with the four-part series challenging notions that Mary Magdalene was Jesus' girlfriend or even his wife. [Remember, there aren't permalinks, so you'll have to scroll. The first part is currently the second-to-last entry on the page.] See, there's this popular book called The Da Vinci Code that brings the idea up. It's apparently fiction, but it's presented as though it's "based on historical evidence" (as Roberts retells it).

My pastor mentioned the book last week. He suggests that believers become familiar with the ideas in the book, as it is so popular with those outside the church. We may be finding ourselves in some odd conversations in the near future. This seems like a good place to get started. Roberts is a pastor and the author of a book called Jesus Revealed. I don't know the book (I think the headmaster and one of the Bible teachers at my school has a copy on his desk, but there's not time to reach him before I post), but the dependable Evangelical Outpost and Damascus Road link to him, and some folks I respect have praised his other book Dare to Be True: Living in the Freedom of Complete Honesty.
