Declaring Summer 2010 the Summer of Gin

After long deliberation, we've decided to take a break from rum and return to our beloved gin this summer.

There are a lot of new American gins worth exploring, and some wonderful things to mix them with (such as Crème Yvette, returned after many decades).

In fact, I think I'll go have a Blue Moon cocktail right now...

2 ounces gin
1/2 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 ounce Crème Yvette

Shake in iced cocktail shaker, and strain into a small cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Indian Lime Soda

Last night I tried an Indian Lime Soda at Susan Feniger's Street - Lime juice and Blue Coat Gin in a glass rimmed with celery salt and cumin, garnish with a slice of lime. It was great!

Re: Indian Lime Soda

Sounds delicious, like a gimlet. But where's the soda?

no soda

That's just the name. Soda wasn't in the description on the happy hour menu and if there was any, it was the smallest splash.

My friends and I are on a quest to find the best martini mix. Thank you for telling me about Vya - unbelievable!
The best combination so far is Miller's Westbourne Strength and Vya. So far, we prefer the London dry gins to American, especially for martinis.

re: Indian Lime Soda

It's an Indian Lime Soda, Ben. Of course there's no soda!*

*(I am sure there's some sort of arch, psuedo-racist intent here)
