InstaMonkey: World's Strongest Beer

Ben says we don't talk enough about booze around here anymore. Things ain't like they yoozta be. Well, I've got to agree, so I'm doing my part.

Behold: Tactical Nuclear Penguin

From the label: "This is an extremely strong beer; it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance."

Whoa... how is that even a beer?

Sounds like a malty liqueur to me. (Hmmm....) I guess it counts as a beer, but... wow.

I like some other parts of that story. Brew Dog sounds like a fine brewery to me. I wonder if the company has any plans to export "Nanny State" to the United States any time soon?

Yeah ... it's a beer

Take it from a homebrewer who has tried to reach such levels of alcohol content, but hasn't ascended such heights. That's a beer. A "sipping" beer, mind you. But a beer nonetheless.

I know from my scientific measurements that I've almost reached 20 percent alcohol content with a few batches. I may have even broken the 20 percent barrier in the final analysis. But believe me, it takes some doing. I applaud the Scots for busting such barriers, and especially to have the guts to market their product. It's hard to make a beer with such a high alcohol content enjoyable for its "beerness," which is why I stopped trying to go higher. I like a good buzz, but I prefer it if the alcohol does not completely overpower the flavor of the complex mix of malts and absorb the fragrant aroma of the hops — though a high alcohol content in a beer can contribute to a clean finish.

(BTW, Ben: "Malt liquor" is merely a marketing term for put-you-on-your-ass beer for "real men." Make that kick-ass macho black men who want to get their smooth on ... at least according to Billy Dee Williams and Fab Five Freddy.)

And forget the name of the brewery. How about the name of the almost illegal brew: "Tactical Nuclear Penguin."

A fine combination of randomness and humor, yet intriguing description of the product. Well done!

Thanks for the suggestion, I

Thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly recommend this beer to my dear colleagues, members of the beer of the month club, it will be a nice surprise for them, maybe I'll get a free membership if they like it. It wouldn't hurt to try...
