Here are some reasons why.
You know what this looks like? A YouTube parody of somebody envisioning what a Ridley Scott production of Robin Hood might look like:
Oh. You say it's actually Ridley Scott's production of Robin Hood? Um, er....
Just a prediction: There's gonna be a scene in this movie where lots of people step forward and yell: "I am Robin Hood!" It just kind of smells like that kind of flick, no?
Hey, I'm a fan of the whole "edgy reboot" genre. James Bond. Batman. All were served well by going to dark places. But Robin Hood? C'mon, Ridley! Robin Hood is Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner's bad accent. It's Alan Rickman playing the villain. It's a Bryan Adams soundtrack! It's supposed to be fun, not humorless and angry.

Looked at first like...
...a sequel (or a prequel, I guess) to Gladiator. I was a little bit confused there for a minute. Not really something I'm interested in seeing.
More than the Batman or Bond reboots, this reminds me of the King Arthur movie of a few years ago. Remember that one? Clive Owen's Arthur was a Roman legionnaire and Merlin was a Druid. Should have been better than it was.
You mean the one...
...where Kiera Knightly is painted blue and barely clothed? No, never heard of it.
Two Thoughts on Scott's RHood
(1) First scene in blue-lit woods had me thinking it might be a reboot of "Brave Sir Robin," which might pique my interest, if they keep the minstrels.
(2) Last shot of "Mr. Hood" holding the arrow notched, completely still, had me thinking that that is more Awesome (holding a bow still while drawn) than most will realise, and then I thought of the (to me) really much better bow-and-arrow scene in Deliverance where Jon Voight is poised to shoot the Guy In The Woods, but he can't bring himself to, and the arrow and bow and he just tremble all over in silence for what seems like minutes...
