Megan Fox trashes Middle America ... again

Via Pam Meister at Big Hollywood comes word that the fetching Megan Fox is not all that happy that her first legitimate starring role in Jennifer's Body bombed at the box office. Who's to blame? The rubes in Middle America the girl raised in Tennessee has an enduring hate for. Fox bleats:

The actress tells The New York Times that her movie “Jennifer’s Body” tanked because “the movie is about a man-eating, cannibalistic lesbian cheerleader, and that pretty much eliminates middle America.”

Keep voluntarily eliminating "Middle America" from your audience, sweetie, and you'll find your audience will continue to dwindle. Them looks, as spectacular as they are, won't last forever. Meister is more to the point:

Oh my stars! [Jennifer's Body] has Oscar and Golden Globe written all over it, and Middle American schlubs who shop at Walmart and enjoy a night out at Applebee’s couldn’t appreciate the delicate nuances of a man-eating, cannibalistic lesbian cheerleader? Well, that’s the hoi polloi for you.

Yup. Someone please inform the bitter Ms. Fox that her box office appeal has everything to do with her looks (and quite a bit of luck) and nothing to do with what she might let spill from her pouty lips.

The hard truth

Look, Z, there's just no getting around it. Megan Fox is way hotter than you are. Therefore, her arguments carry greater weight. (Even though you weigh a great deal more than she does.)

Life is so unfair.

RE: The hard truth

You said ... "hard." (Insert Beavis and Butt-head laughing "eh, eh, eh, eh, eh" here)

Here's a Metaphor to Get Behind

Let's say middle America is a sun-warmed Harley, and Megan Fox straddling it in Daisy Dukes shorts is...

... you know what? I've forgotten where I was going with this. Nvm

it's too perverse

to imagine walking a mile in her shoes, but man it must be something. I don't feel a need to bash her.

What's sillier than Megan Fox's comments?

For what it's worth, when you read the full quote, it doesn't sound to me like she's trashing Middle America so much as offering up a sensible observation:

“People expected ‘Jennifer’s Body’ to make so much money,” Fox said flatly. “But I was doubtful. The movie is about a man-eating, cannibalistic lesbian cheerleader, and that pretty much eliminates middle America. It’s obviously a girl-power movie, but it’s also about how scary girls are. Girls can be a nightmare.” Fox paused and stared up at the ladies on “The View.” “ ‘Jennifer’s Body’ wasn’t rated PG-13 like ‘Twilight,’ ” she continued. “It was a hard R, and kids couldn’t get in. So they bought a ticket to another movie and snuck in.” She smiled. “If I was to have a message, it would be to be a different kind of role model to girls. With ‘Jennifer’s Body,’ I want to say, It’s O.K. to be different from how you’re supposed to be. I worry that’s totally lost.”

Looking for references to "rubes" or "hoi poloi." No? God, context can be a real bitch.

It's kind of silly for conservatives to trump "Middle America" as the beacon of "real" values, then get all righteously indignant when somebody says: "That movie I made? Didn't appeal to Middle American values so much." The enraged reaction of your Big Hollywood poster suggests she was right, and yet your blogger is mad ... why exactly?

I'm no Megan Fox fan -- I've literally never seen a movie or TV show she's been in. (With the exception of the SNL episode she was in.) But the one thing sillier than Megan Fox? Cheap indignation about things Megan Fox says.

Golly Joel ...

Didn't you realize this post was just an excuse to post a picture of Fox? Well ... sort of.

Anyway, a couple of things:

1. Your context mitigates her insult to Middle America a bit, but not fully. Besides, the movie bombed so thoroughly, even a hot lesbian cannibal in a cheerleader outfit couldn't get the "smart folks" on the coasts to see her movie.

2. So it bombed because it was rated "R." Please. Hasn't hurt the Saw movies. In fact, the story of the last few years has been the rebirth of the "R" rated hit.

3. Middle America didn't have much trouble with a cannibal named Hannibal a few years back. And there was no cheerleader outfits involved!

4. Your defense of the fetching Ms. Fox would carry more weight if taking gratuitous shots at Middle America wasn't a pattern. Didn't click my link above, eh? Ok, then. Here's the quote:

When asked how she would stop the ruthless Megatron from demolishing the world, Fox first said that she would “barter with him.” She then, however, went on to say, “… and instead of the entire planet, can you just take out all of the white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America?”

Niiiiice. Oh, and my indignation ain't cheap. And it ain't free. It cost's a buck O Five.

Middle America

Surprised you didn't just post this. Haven't you heard? Posting videos from TV shows is the New Argument. Heck, it's better than argument.

Posting Videos

Oh, come on. The only reason I posted that clip of Cartman laughing is because I figured my original post (i.e. "AHhhhHAHAHAHAHA) would have been too low on the content scale. The 2nd Fox "Mistake" was too silly to warrant much comment or argument. Almost like this thread. :)

Re: Posting Videos

K makes my day. He thought it was a shot!

My Narcissism

It knows no bounds. Al Gore I invented the Internet so people could talk about me. :D

I don't know what's sadder

That people care about what Megan Fox says, or that people are defending what Megan Fox says.

I get more Megan Fox than I need in a short trip to /b/.

Still confused

I still don't get how she was "insulting" anyone. She was just stating facts that you agree with.

I also don't understand how making a movie that appeals to one group but not others is an insult to the group that is left out. I'm not as offended as by Hollywood making a movie about a lesbian cannibal as I am but their willful ignorance in not making movies to appeal most of America. It's financially stupid, but I do think it comes from a belief that if they make a movie about, say, a happily married traditional family, that's somehow a slap in the face to non-traditional families. You even see it with movies like "Juno," that critics tried to parse for some sort of anti-abortion message. Hollywood needs to get back to telling stories in a powerful way, and stop trying to have messages in everything.

I'm with...

...Joel and David (and maybe a few others, I got lost) on this.

MF has said some stupid things. But this isn't one of them. Personally, I haven't really connected with the buzz about how hot she is. Nice pic, though. What was I saying again?

The buzz

The reason that pic is so great is you don't have to see that hideous, distracting tattoo on her forearm.

Megan Fox

has forearms?!
