A preview of Sarah Palin's 'Going Rogue'

Have you ordered your copy of Sarah Palin's memoir yet? I wasn't planning to, but with Amazon selling the $28 book for nine bucks plus shipping, I really couldn't pass it up. (By the way, how can HarperCollins possibly afford that deep of a discount?) In any case, I'm sure the book will provide fodder for the column, the podcast and, well, this here blog.

Time's Mark Halperin clues curious readers to what is and isn't in store for them. My favorite detail:

Once source who has seen “Going Rogue” says it does not include an index. That would give Palin a subtle revenge on the party's Washington establishment, whose members tend to flip to the back pages and scan for their own names. If they want to know what Sarah Palin has to say about them, they will have to buy the book—and read the whole thing.

I'm not head over heels for Palin, but I'm looking forward to reading the book, which is scheduled to land in stores -- and on my front porch -- on Tuesday.

Sarah Palin's book

We may podcast it, but I'm not reading it.

It's not a matter of being close-minded. It's just that I've got a lot of books on my shelf begging to be read right now. And I can't think of a single one I'd want to displace in order to read Palin's stuff.

That said, Halperin apparently hasn't heard of "Kindle." Or "staffers who do that kind of crappy grunt work." Or "blogs." Nobody who wants to know what Sarah Palin has to say about them is going to have to wade through the book if they don't want.

I Dream of Jeannie Out of the Bottle

I will be interested in Palin's end game. There she was, fairly secured up in Alaska, which no one (important, if you read the papers aright) cared much about. And the the GOP, displaying either great wisdom or else the type of wisdom that got the Planet Killer in Star Trek built, let the djinn out of the frosty bottle.

The book nets her some spendin loot. The question is then: what is the loot to be used for?

Like I said, I am interested. Entrenched Republicans don't quite know what to make of her, and entrenched liberal Democrats h-h-h-HATE her with unbridled venom not seen around my parts in quite awhile. Real "5 Minute's Hate" type stuff, only it lasts and lasts.

So-- what will she do? If I had to pick one politician to put in Joker makeup, it wouldn't be Obama.

It'd be her.

Me? I like it when the entrenched are all running around like ants after their nest has been stepped on.

Palin's Convention Speech & Loot

I'll admit, I was scared when I heard her convention speech. Whoever wrote it was good. At that point, I thought she had a chance to put McCain over the top. Fortunately, they couldn't script her every word, and boy, when she goes off script, it's really fun to watch. Her farewell speech in Alaska was classic.

Regarding the money made from the book, I don't think it is significant in any political sense. It will not give her the kind of fortune Perot had and needed to field a national campaign. Hell, even Bloomberg's wealth far outstrips her, and I'm sure he had to raise a fair bit of cash rather than funding his mayoral race by himself. The amount of money spent campaigning is obscene.
