Here are some reasons why.
Here's Chris Good in the Atlantic:
Fact: Meghan McCain is the most visible political person in the country under 25 years of age right now. With appearances on Rachel Maddow, The View, and now Larry King Live, the 2008 presidential campaign (and her blogging during it) has given her a sizable podium. Some have criticized her for her centrist, socially liberal views--Laura Ingraham compared her to a plus-sized model--and earlier this month she gave a name to the brand of moderate Republicanism to which she ascribes: "progressive Republican."
Her "moderate" Republicanism is little different from that of her old man: haughty, sickeningly bipartisan and predictably liberal on serious questions. Good goes on to write, without offering a shred of evidence, that "McCain could foster a social liberalism among young conservatives--or a conservatism among young social liberals--and become that model 'new young Republican.'"
More likely, McCain could continue to offer a fleeting and superficial take on Republican politics. I'm betting on the latter.

Progressive moderation
Ah, Ben. You made me smile with that most amazing of phrases, "sickeningly bipartisan."
Because as we know, all right-thinking Americans should be at the extremes of the two political parties.
All I can say, as someone who considers himself a fiscal ("not very serious questions") conservative and a social ("serious questions") liberal -- oops, no party to serve my needs! -- is, I resemble that remark. Except I'd probably call myself "distressingly unpartisan." I'm not sure if bipartisanship makes any sense when both parties appear to be abject failures.
Meghan McCain
God bless her, but hearing her speak in that "like, and, sorta, like, OH MY GOD!" voice means that the words "serious," "politics," and Meghan McCain should not be hanging around in the same ZIP code.
What is it with under-30 females these days. Soooo many of them speak like extras from "Clueless." Ms. McCain's political philosophy — and I use that term extremely loosely — appears to be that traditional Reagan conservatism is so ... like ... lame ... you know?! All my friends have no problem with gay marriage and stuff, and taxes? Like, who can figure all that stuff out. Ugh.
It takes a clear-thinking 20-something (of which I was one) to understand that what's popular with your peers might not be all that good for the country. It takes a bit of courage to be a young conservative. Not so much to be a young liberal. In Meghan's case, she's a young liberal with the label (R) next to her name just because of her dad.
The MSM is only giving this twit the time of day because of her name and (always key) her willingness to run down "her own" party.
Meghan's Time of Day
Come on, she's also getting the time of day because she's ADORABLE.
did you say twit?
like, um, ditto.
